Little Rainbow Home
The intention is that in the future the large Rainbow Home is replaced by a number of smaller homes. In every house approximately five children will live with a house mother. In this situation a proper family situation can be simulated. This will give children a more homely and secure atmosphere in which they can better develop and restore their lives from the streets. Together with our partner organization, Rainbow Foundation Nepal is currently working on a Little Rainbow Home pilot.Rainbow Foundation Nepal aim to use the following directive to provide a roadmap for the realization of this project. In Nepal it is not usually structured according to a plan, but one lives every day. It must take into account changes during the execution of the project may occur. The roadmap consists of 3 phases: the preparation phase, the implementation and follow-up.
Preparation Phase
This phase is almost behind us. We searched for a suitable location in the rural areas around the city of Pokhara, where facilities like water and electricity supply and education for the children. This location was found within walking distance of Pokhara, so the children can go to school there and is close to healthcare facilities and further training.
Implementation phase
The next step was to buy a piece of land. This was in fact less easy than initially thought. During this stage a typical Nepali house designed and then constructed, in collaboration with the village community.A housewife will be appointed, with proper training as to how to work with the children to guide and teach them.
Continuation Path
This process can be seen as the start of life for the Little Rainbow Home. There are up to five children and the mother living in the home. Initially they will be guided in learning to again live as a family unit and returning from their lives on the streets. They will attend a local neighbourhood school. The house mothers gradually learn to their produce their own livelihood. Cows are bought and the farming is commenced. Rainbow Foundation Nepal will continue to fund this project until the first crop and milk are sustainable. This phase will also be continuously evaluated and to see what else is needed for this project in the future, to contribute to the partner organization and the village community.
